Excel data types

Types of data in Excel

Excel can be categorized to 4 major date types that could be found in an Excel cell. These types are:

  1. Numeric data
  2. Text data
  3. Boolean data
  4. Errors

Numeric data:

What we mean by numeric date is all date that is stored as numbers for mathematical use later in the file.

That category includes data like:

integers, amount of money, date,,, etc.

but not includes date like ID numbers because there is no mathematical use on them.

Text data:

It is all data that conatains alphabetic character or could be numbers but no mathematical equations will be applied to them (like as we said ID numbers)

That category includes data like:

Addresses, names, ID numbers,,, etc.

Boolean data:

Are the logical data output for a logical test, which is either True or False.

for example:

the following Excel formula would give a result of true or false based on the data in cell A1:

=IF(A1>50,True,False)

it means if the data stored in the cell A1 is greater than 50 then it is ok to be True, else the output is False.
